What is in the herbal medicine?

Relax, there is nothing strange or exotic in your Chinese herbal formula. Most of the Chinese herbs are varieties of grass, roots, stems, leaves, seeds, flowers, fruits, bark etc.

To make you feel comfortable, Dr Wilson is more than willing to show you what is in your herbal formula. Although the herbs dispensed at the Fertility and IVF Acupuncture Clinic are in granulated form, within the clinic there is a display shelf which stocks each of the Chinese herbs in their raw form.

If you have any philosophical or religious beliefs which limit what you can ingest, let Dr Wilson know, and he will make the necessary adjustments. In rare cases, there may be a need to employ the use of a more “exotic” herb. When this occurs, Dr Wilson will discuss this with you and disclose the origins of the herb and request your permission.

The Fertility and IVF Acupuncture Clinic uses Chinese herbs in granulated form. Granulated Chinese herbs are, on average, better quality as the strengths of their active ingredients are standardised. The alternative to granulated herbs are raw Chinese herbs. Raw Chinese herbs are time consuming since they need to be prepared by the patient at home. Often errors are made in the preparation process and the efficacy of the decoction may be affected. Also, it is important to note that there is often a wide variance in the quality in Chinese raw herbs. In addition, pesticides and heavy metals may be present. These problems are avoided at the Fertility and IVF Acupuncture Clinic since only granulated herbs are dispensed.
